Congratulations to Nicholas Negron, son of CWA Local 1037 member Luis Negron, for being awarded the Bergen County Central Trades and Labor Council’s Abe Solomon Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to attend Rutgers University in the fall.
“I will be double majoring in economics and math,” said Nicholas Negron. “I find those avenues to be really interesting as I’m passionate about labor. I’d like to one day work at the Bureau of Labor Statistics or something in labor. My father has talked to me about unions my whole life. I also took a class a few semesters ago at Rutgers called Intro to Employment and Labor Relations, and it taught me about the struggles workers have and the power imbalance in the workplace.”
“He works so hard so I’m really proud of him,” said Luis Negron, a Public Defender in Middlesex, “the scholarship will help quite a bit.”
Every year, members who are attending university, college, and trade or technical school may be eligible to apply for scholarships offered by our partners in the Labor Movement. Future scholarships and other member benefits will be posted here.
