On Saturday, October 21, CWA Local 1037 Shop Stewards in the childcare industry attended an all-day training session in Newark. Stewards from La Casa De Don Pedro and The Leaguers, Inc. joined together to learn new skills on how to protect workers’ rights at their worksites and organize members to be active in their union.

The training included a segment on Weingarten Rights, grievances, and building power in Early Childhood Education. As the backbone of a Union Local, Stewards are the key to building a strong, democratic labor movement. Workers learned the important role they play as a point of contact between members, union staff, and leadership, and how to address concerns or questions members have at the worksite. The training wrapped up with a Shop Steward pledge.
